Assisting ComSuper with the delivery of the largest and most complex occupational superannuation schemes in Australia

With 687,000 members, ComSuper is the Australian Government agency responsible for administering the major superannuation schemes available to Australian Defence Force members and the majority of Australian Government employees.

The Thinking

Internal Audit is an important management tool for ComSuper, allowing them to deliver their services to members efficiently and in accord with legislative and regulatory requirements.

In particular, the major annual controls review against the GS007 standard provides assurance on key business processes to ComSuper Executive staff, as well as important external stakeholders. This audit has also progressively assisted with improvements in business processes. Internal Audit is also one of the assurance mechanisms for major business projects within ComSuper.

The Solution

Taking a partnership approach, Oakton has been working closely with ComSuper’s Internal Audit and Risk team to provide Internal Audit services since 2007 under a co-sourced arrangement. Amongst other audit activities, Oakton undertakes the GS007 controls audit twice annually and have an important role in the continuing improvement of the controls framework.

Customer Benefit

Oakton has developed a deep understanding of business processes and operations at ComSuper and are able to provide an independent view of activities, assist in identifying the sources of process or control weaknesses and recommending improvements.
